Tasty vegetable combinations

June 9, 2010

Category: Nutrition, Tips & tricks.

We need to eat enough vegetables, 2½ cups a day, for a good and varied diet with all sorts of nutrients. Vegetables contain lots of fiber, vitamins and minerals that are essential for a healthy body.

Many people don’t fancy vegetables and therefore we don’t always meet the dietary guidelines.
But for people who are trying to lose weight, vegetables are the perfect solution. You can eat (almost) as much as you like because vegetables contain few calories and are very healthy!

Therefore we came up with some nice tips for various vegetable combinations. Then you’ll have lean and tasty vegetables, with a delicious flavour. Definitely worth a try! The kids will also really appreciate it.

All combinations are per 2½ cups

- Green beans with cherry tomatoes. Mix the cooked green beans and the cherry tomatoes. 1½ cup green beans and 1 cup tomatoes provide 80 calories.

- Broccoli with cauliflower. 1½ cup broccoli and 1 cup cauliflower provide 73 calories.

- Stir fry 1½ cup cooked snow peas with 1 cup bean sprouts. This provides 100 calories (incl. 1 teaspoon olive oil).

- Zucchini with eggplant. Cut into pieces and grill in the oven with thyme. 2½ cups provide 40 calories.

- Stir fry 1½ cup chicory with 1 cup leeks. This provides 100 calories (incl. 1 teaspoon olive oil).

- Asparagus with green peas and / or broad beans. This may be green or white asparagus. This provides about 75 calories.

- Roasted sweet peppers with onions and garlic. Mix the roasted sweet peppers with onion rings and garlic, you can serve this combination hot or cold. 1½ cup sweet peppers and 1 cup onions provide 95 calories.

This list can go on and on, because you can vary endlessly with vegetables. Try steaming, stir-frying or grilling! Do you also have great tips for the other participants? Place them below!
